As we transition from summer sandals, NYFW Spring/Summer 2024 highlights playful shoe trends. Vibrant colors, open-toed styles, and comfy flats stole the spotlight. From flat forms to platform mules, comfort meets height for happy feet. Explore the top trends, even if you can’t wear them just yet.
Chunky Neon Sneakers
We have a soft spot for “ugly shoes,” especially when they embrace playful elements like quirky colors and whimsical laces. Colin LoCascio and Flying Solo’s chunky sneakers, with their normcore vibe, effortlessly blended streetwear chic with a vibrant summer color scheme, featuring ribbon laces, bold sole contrasts, and neon highlights.
White Boots
Keeping white boots pristine may be a challenge, yet their versatility with various outfits shines through, as showcased by numerous designers. Next spring and summer’s white boot offerings strike a balance between ankle and knee heights, boasting a chic, boxy silhouette that complements everything from short-shorts to pencil skirts.
Silver Heels
This season’s runways saw an abundance of delicate and strappy silver pumps and high-heeled sandals. Libertine embraced a slinky and summery take on the trend, while Sergio Hudson opted for a pointy-toe, multi-strap silhouette.
Thigh-High Boots
Thigh-high boots continued to evolve stylishly with a slouchy vibe on the runways of LaPointe and Dion Lee. Instead of clinging tightly from thigh to calf, these boots showcased a relaxed silhouette, providing ample wiggle room.
Ruby Red Slippers
Red is setting the fashion scene ablaze this fall (pun intended), and if the Spring/Summer ’24 collections have anything to say, this fiery trend will continue to shine next year. Colin LoCascio, Aknvas, and Palomo Spain dazzled with their array of bold red slippers and heels, from sleek glossy flats to charming floral kitten heels.
Flatform Sandals
This season, utilitarian flatform sandals received a playful makeover on the runways. Aknvas and Adeam adorned thick-soled black sandals with floral appliqués and ribbons, infusing them with a touch of whimsy. Meanwhile, Collina Strada stirred up nostalgia with pale blue tie-dye color palettes, reminiscent of the beloved jelly sandals from yesteryears.
Knee-High Flats
On the Paloma Spain and Michael Kors runways, we saw a mix of ballet-inspired flats and gladiator sandals. Paloma Spain models wore flats with thin cords tied around their calves, while Michael Kors showcased shiny knee-high straps on their gladiator sandals.
Statement Slides
Throughout the week, we saw slides dressed up in shiny satin and a stunning array of rich, jewel tones. Whether they were flat or with heels, one thing remained constant: the vibrant colors seen in the bejeweled and platform slide sandals at shows like Wiederhoeft, Melke, and Eckhaus Latta.
Two-Tone Toes
Steel toes meet high fashion. Carolina Herrera showcased this two-toned trend with elegant, point-toe flats. Meanwhile, the 3.1 Phillip Lim runway featured a modern twist on Victorian buttons, adding a nostalgic flair to slouchy styles.
Vintage Chartreuse
Summer’s beloved celebrity hue graced the NYFW runways. Bishme Cromartie and Altuzarra showcased vintage chartreuse in shiny leather sandals and satin flats. Meanwhile, Melke opted for a softer approach, featuring the bright color in suede chunky loafers.
